The purpose of the present study is the introduction of a method of analyzing the content of textbooks by teachers through the William Romey’s model. Through this model, teachers can examine the engagement rate of textbooks. In order to acquaint the audience with this method, the case study method was used, and the aim was for the audience to be acquainted in a step-by-step manner with content analysis by presenting an example of content analysis through William Romey’s model. The case study was conducted on junior high school science textbooks for grades one, two, and three. In William Romey’s model, text, images, and questions from textbooks are analyzed. If the engagement rate of each section is less than 0.4, the book is passive and the engagement rate is low, so by identifying the passive sections, teachers can take strategies to overcome this problem and compensate for the weakness through alternative methods. Furthermore, teachers can help improve textbooks and assist the authors to address the problems in them.
