Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of designing a mental health framework in order to evaluate candidates entering the teacher education program in Iran. The research method used was a qualitative type of Grounded theory. The study population (participants) of this research included all faculty members and lecturers of Farhangian University in the fields of counseling and psychology, of whom a sample of 17 people was selected by purposive sampling (expert type). The interview tool (semi-structured) was used to collect the required data. Using qualitative analysis based on three types of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, the findings of the research were analyzed. The findings of the research showed that the mental health framework of the candidates entering the teacher education program included two main categories and seventeen subcategories. The main categories consisted of positive dimensions (including the components of psychological well-being, emotional intelligence, communication skills, social interest, self-confidence and self-efficacy) and negative dimensions (including the components of psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, bipolar disorders, depression disorders, personality disorders, self-harm and behavior disorders, addictive disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, paraphilic disorders and negative emotions). According to the findings of this research, it can be concluded that the mental health framework of teaching profession candidates includes two positive and negative dimensions that have related components and indicators. Therefore, in the process of interviewing candidates to enter the teaching profession, they pointed out that while preventing candidates with mental disorders from entering the teacher education program, candidates with positive mental health components should be admitted to Farhangian University.
