The Relationship Between In-Service Training Courses and Job Empowerment: The Case of Physical Education Teachers in Markazi Province

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine relationship between in-service training courses and job empowerment of physical education teachers in Markazi province. This is an applied research with a descriptive- correlational design. The statistical population of the study included all physical education teachers who working in Markazi province (N = 499) from among whom 217 teachers were selected as the statistical sample based on available quota method. To collect the data, In-Service Training Teacher Education Questionnaire which is based on the SIPP model and Teacher Job Empowerment by Martin (2001) were used. To analyze the data, T-test and regression analysis were used using SPSS software version 16. The results showed that the scores of in-service training and job empowerment of physical education teachers are higher than the mean. Also, the results showed that there is a correlation between in-service training and job empowerment of physical education teachers. In addition, in-service training courses could significantly predict the job empowerment. In this regard, process and outputs components and the management, outcomes, objectives and course instructor’s subscales had a greater role on the job empowerment of physical education teachers. In-service training can empower physical education teachers. Therefore, it is suggested that in-service training courses be held with emphasis on the mentioned components and subscales and efforts to improve the status of other subscales for physical education teachers in the province.
